| Our military budget is more than the military budget of all the next 11 ranking nations. That is too much, almost 700 billion dollars, that is more than all other items in the discretionary budget (55% of it, and about 20% of the National budget). Bringing it down to 30% would be sensible and reasonable. We don't have to be the police enforcer of the planet. Only we should intervene when there is an international consensus, and we participate as one more nation in the search for order and justice. | |||

| Fracking damages the ground strata, fracturing aquifers, and then injects toxic chemicals, that could cause permanent damage to the quality of those aquifers. It is an irreversible heavy-handed technology. I have been a former watchdog of the excessive use of fossil fuels, and tried to promote alternative sources. I wrote an interesting article in 1979 which was submitted to the White House (Pres. Carter), Congress and several national magazines. | At 400ppm of CO2 and increasing at 4ppm per year, we will arrive to 1,000ppm in less than 150 years. That level of CO2 is -according to OSHA- toxic if submerged into it for extended periods of time. Sea level rise is unrelentingly rising, currently at 3mm, but picking up to 4 mm per year. Even at 3mm, that implies 300mm (1 foot) every hundred year. In 1000 year it would be -conservatively- ten times as much or 10ft, more than 3 yards. Moreover, for each 1y up it goes -on average- 19y inland. | |||

| I have a problem not with the second amendment to the US Constitution per se (as far as having a right to bear arms "for the right reasons"). Yet, what made sense in the 1700's (and with firearms of that era) might not make sense in the XXI century, and with our present rapid-fire automatic weapons. I strongly support [1] a ban on automatic weapons, [2] stringent registration, [3] immediate background check of those trying to buy weapons, and [4] an end to the loopholes in gun shows. IT IS ABOUT TIME TO PUT "COMMON-SENSE GUN LEGISLATION" IN PLACE !! | |||

| Regarding: (a) Agriculture, I will decrease subsidies to some major farming corporations, but will increase help to farming families. Overall it probably be a net slight decrease. (l) Welfare. Having been in financial predicaments a couple of times in the past, I know how good is to -temporarily- get assistance with food, or other items. I would increase the affordability of homes to poor people by an increase in funds for that purpose. Yet, if we keep a good eye, any abuses to the system will not be that significant, despite there will always bigots blaming the poor for freeloading. | |||

[4] RATHER THAN DECREASING MEDICARE AND SOCIAL SECURITY ENTITLEMENT, I would promote the opposite. Medicare FOR ALL (universal or single payer), and seniors DESERVE A RAISE. I am retired after having worked for 50 years, I make $1,600 in social security. It is tough to live on that amount. Well, I was a professional engineer who paid FICA handsomely, so those who were not that fortunate might not even make $800 a month. Terrible! |
